Cookies are small files a website stores in your browser; “local storage” is a similar browser feature. My Finance Platform uses very little of either: a few items the site needs, and two analytics services.
What is always used
- A region cookie (
gdpr-region) records whether you are visiting from a country where analytics needs your consent first (see below). It holds no personal information and expires after one day. - Your cookie choice is saved in your browser's local storage so the banner does not ask again on every page.
- The email address you last used to download a template is saved in local storage, on your device only, so you do not have to type it again. It is not sent anywhere until you download another template.
There are no accounts or logins on the site, so we do not use login or session cookies. The numbers you type into calculators stay in your browser and are not stored.
Analytics
Two services measure how the site is used so we can improve it:
- Google Analytics counts visits and page views and shows which pages and tools are useful. It sets cookies whose names begin with
_ga. - Microsoft Clarity shows how pages are used, such as where readers click and how far they scroll, so we can find confusing layouts. It sets cookies such as
_clckand_clsk. It does not load at all unless you allow analytics.
If you visit from the EU, the EEA or the UK
A banner asks for your choice. Until you allow analytics, Google Analytics runs in Google's consent mode without storing analytics cookies, and Microsoft Clarity does not load. If you also allow marketing, Google may use the analytics data for its advertising features, such as measuring the results of an ad campaign.
If you visit from anywhere else, including the United States
Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity run by default and no banner is shown; Google's advertising features stay off. You can opt out by blocking or clearing cookies in your browser, or by using Google's Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
We do not place advertising or social media tracking pixels on the site.
How to change your choice
Clear the site's cookies and local storage in your browser settings. In the EU, the EEA and the UK the banner will then ask again on your next visit. Most browsers also let you block cookies altogether. The calculators and guides work without analytics cookies.
