Retirement Numbers, Explained by Email

A free letter from Rob May and Vik Chadha for people near or in retirement: new guides and calculators, the year’s numbers when they change, and worked examples you can check against your own.

What arrives in your inbox?

Three kinds of email, and nothing else. First, new guides and calculators as we publish them, with a short note on who each one is for and the question it answers.

Second, the year’s numbers when they change. IRS contribution limits and tax brackets, Medicare Part B premiums and the IRMAA income brackets, the Social Security cost-of-living adjustment: each is announced on its own date, and each can change a decision you have already made. We send the new figures with a line on what they affect, and we keep them all on one page, the 2026 retirement numbers, with sources.

Third, worked examples. A hypothetical couple in their early 60s with $2 million split across a 401(k), a Roth IRA and a brokerage account, a pension offer and a paid-off house: what a Roth conversion does to their tax bill and their Medicare premiums two years later, or what claiming Social Security at 67 instead of 70 costs the surviving spouse. The point is to show the method, so you can run the same steps with your own figures.

Who writes it?

Rob May and Vik Chadha, who founded My Finance Platform. Between them they have started, run and sold companies and invested in more than a hundred others, and they built this site after finding that a straight answer about their own money was harder to get than it should be. You can read more on the about page.

We are not a registered investment adviser, and the newsletter is not personal advice. Most of our readers work with a CPA, planner or attorney. The letter is meant to help you understand the numbers, see the trade-offs, and go into those meetings knowing which questions to ask. We do not sell investments or insurance and take no commissions, so nothing we write depends on the choices you make.

What kinds of topics does it cover?

The decisions that come with a lifetime of savings. These guides, already on the site, show the depth you can expect:

Or browse all the guides and all the calculators.

What about the Excel templates?

Most calculators on the site come with an Excel template you can keep, change and send to your CPA. They are free; we ask for your email address when you download one, and that signs you up for this newsletter so you hear when the figures in it change. A few premium workbooks are planned. The free template collection lists what is available today.

Questions about the newsletter

What does the My Finance Platform newsletter cover?

It is written for people near or in retirement. Each issue carries something specific: a new guide or calculator, a change in the year’s numbers such as IRS contribution limits, Medicare premiums or the Social Security cost-of-living adjustment, or a worked example that runs one household’s figures through a decision like a Roth conversion or a claiming age.

Is the newsletter free?

Yes. The newsletter is free, and so are the calculators, the guides and most of the Excel templates on the site. A paid edition may follow later. We do not sell investments or insurance and do not take commissions.

How often will I get an email?

We have not set a fixed schedule. We write when there is something worth sending: a new guide, a change in the rules or the year’s figures, or a worked example.

Who writes it, and is it financial advice?

Rob May and Vik Chadha, the founders of My Finance Platform, write it. It is educational, not personal advice: we are not a registered investment adviser. It is meant to help you understand your numbers and go into conversations with your CPA or adviser knowing which questions to ask.

What do you do with my email address, and how do I unsubscribe?

We use it to send the newsletter and anything you ask for, such as a template. We do not sell or rent it. You can unsubscribe at any time by replying to any email or through the contact page, and we will remove you.

I downloaded a template. Am I already subscribed?

Yes. Downloading an Excel template signs you up for the free newsletter, so you hear when the figures in it change. You can unsubscribe at any time by replying to any email.
